About KAULIS

The Kerala Agricultural University is entrusted with the triple functions of producing trained personnel, carrying out research and extension activities in agricultural sector. Information is a valuable resource and important constituent that determines the quality of education, research and extension activities. Kerala Agricultural University Library and Information System (KAULIS) is envisaged for the collection, organisation and dissemination of information on agriculture which includes Crop and Animal Production, Fisheries, Forestry, Nutrition and Rural Development. The KAULIS consists of the Central Library, College Libraries in 10 constituent colleges and Research Station Libraries.

The unit for Library and Information Services was established in 1995 at the Kerala Agricultural University as per the provisions of the Kerala Agricultural University Act of 1971. Kerala Agricultural University Library and Information System (KAULIS) was formally inaugurated by the then Honourable Minister for Agriculture Sri. Krishnan Kaniyamparambil on 24th of December, 1998.

Mandate

  • To provide library and information services to all members of Kerala Agricultural University is the statutory objective of the Central Library.
  • To impart information services to all users of the Library.
  • To conduct User Orientation Programmes for scientists and students on subjects like Literature Search and Indexing and Abstracting Techniques.
  • To organise in-service training for library and information professionals.
  • To undertake research in current information technology and develop relevant information handling tools and techniques.
  • To evolve standards and guidelines for various aspects of library and information systems and networks.
  • To provide advisory and consultancy services.
